THE 2009 ANNUAL FILSON REUNION NEWSLETTER & INVITATION
Dear Filson Family and Friends.
This year’s Annual Filson Family Reunion will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009, in one of the air-conditioned buildings at the Flemingsburg RECC beginning at 11 o'clock. Our reunion is being held early this year, so it’s time to begin planning vacations to hopefully include joining the family for a wonderful time of great fellowship and certainly plenty of good food. And, since the reunion is early, everyone will be able to plan their own family gatherings for the 4th of July on the following Saturday.
We welcome your ideas and suggestions for activities and/or field trips. It was most enjoyable last year when some funny family stories were shared and it brought back memories of so many of our dear family members who are no longer with us.
Also, there are announcements to share some big news! Ami and Eric Self are happy to announce the birth of their new son, Josiah Lee, born on October 7; Brian and Jeannie Henselman are happy to announce the birth of their new daughter, Rebecca Faith, on December 15; and Randy and LaToya Filson are happy to announce the birth of their new daughter, Ra’Lyn on January 30.
Josiah Lee Self
Rebecca Faith Henselman
Ra’Lyn Zaine Filson
We would like to try something different this year to raise money for the reunion expenses. It seems that lately the white elephants sales have not been generating much interest and not enough money needed to cover all the expenses involved in holding our reunion. So, a collection will be taken for cash contributions in lieu of a white elephant sale. Perhaps the time formerly spent in auctioning the items off could be spent having fun together as one big family on a field trip. We could caravan to the mountain and/or the cemetery where so many of our ancestors are buried.
P.S. Plates, cups, napkins, forks, etc., and ice will be furnished. We are asking for each family to bring a couple of 2 liter bottles of their favorite soft drinks. We are requesting that meat dishes be brought as part of the potluck.
Prizes: The Filson who has the most descendants present at the reunion; the family member who travelled the longest distance to come; the oldest member of the Filson Family; and the newest member of the Filson Family.
One final request..................if you received this delivered by the USPS, and if you or a close family member have email, please send the email address to: judyhenselman@windstream.net and it will be added to a spreadsheet for future mailings. And, if you've moved and this was forwarded on to you, please let us know so your information can be updated. Thanks.

Comment: It was certainly thrilling to find the 1909 Filson Reunion picture on the site. I am the grandson of Fred Irvin (sic Ervin) who is in the picture and I have fond memories of my great-grandmother Alice Thompson who is also in the picture. I knew several other people who are in the picture. I am wondering what the Filson connection to the Stratton family is. I have no recollection of Strattons being mentioned with respect to the Filsons. I would appreciate any information that might provide an answer. Thanks!

Comment: Hello,
I discovered your website today after a google search. I have been focusing on my Filson connection recently. Samuel B. Filson and his 2nd wife, Mary Cooper, were my 5th great-grandparents. I am descended through their daughter, Ethalinda Julia Adelia Filson who married Benjamin Royse and their daughter Josephine Royse Littleton. Josephine moved with her family to NE Kansas in the 1880s and many of her descendants still live in that area.

Comment: The un-escaped character issue has been fixed.
Here is an example with the correction "It's fixed!".
Note that the double (quote) and single apostrophes now show correctly and should stop code intrusions.

Comment: My apologies to Harry Filson. He has had a Comment posted that for some reason will not transfer properly to this list. When I get through with my daily programming at UK, I'll see what the problem is.
OK, the problem is the single apostrophe that needs to be escaped with a ' or backslash before the apostrophe.
Thanks,
Ralph

Comment: Hi all. My name is Harry Filson, one of the PA.Filsons from Mifflin County. My father was Ross Franklin Filson of Reedsville,Pa. He had 3 brothers,Walt,Reed and Willard (who was last to live in the family house) .I have been trying to find my ancestors for many years now.I never knew that there were so many of us out there! My Aunt Sarah might be the only person now that has information of the family that I am aware of. So I am hoping that there might be someone out there that might be able to help other than my Aunt? I am glad to see that you have family reunions. Perhaps my wife and I might attend one year.I would be scared, but being around family would put me at ease. Thanks for your time and energy in advance.Hope to hear from someone soon. Thanks again.

Comment: Due to the volume of pornography being dumped on my site, I'll rewrite the code to require authentications along with notifications of new posts. We just got back from Austin and NY City. So, it may take a day or so to program the best routines. If you should have a problem posting during that period of time, it is most likely a programmer's spelling error.

In the censes it stated household consisted of G-G_Papaw Bill, my G-Grandfather Samuel Thomas age 16, James B 11, Ressie B 6, William P 4, and James Crawford 28. Doing a little more research, I found he was a servant. Would anyone have any info on this? I would sure appreciate it. kim hamilton
